Chatcove for Mac

Back up an iPhone to your Mac and export its whole WhatsApp history, photos, videos and voice notes.

Chatcove overview

Chatcove creates an encrypted local backup of an iPhone and turns the WhatsApp history inside it into something you can read, search and keep on your Mac. Connect the iPhone over USB, run the backup, and every conversation opens with its attachments intact. The whole process happens on the machine in front of you: no account, no upload, no cloud service.

Features
  • Creates an encrypted iPhone backup and sets and remembers a strong backup password for you.
  • Browses every chat and group as a full conversation, including right-to-left languages.
  • Shows photos, videos and voice notes inline, exactly as they were sent.
  • Exports any chat to HTML, PDF, TXT or CSV.
  • Keeps every photo, video and voice note with the exported conversation.
  • Reports who you talk to most, when, and how much.
  • Signed and notarized by Codama, so it opens without a Gatekeeper warning.

What's new in version 0.1.3

Fixed
  • Backups that stopped at "Could not perform backup protocol version exchange, error code -1" now get further. The bundled libimobiledevice accepts the newer handshake that recent iPhones may use, and when the handshake still fails it reports the real error code instead of -1.
  • If the iPhone does not answer at the start of a backup, Chatcove now retries on its own (up to 3 more attempts), then shows clear steps to get it going instead of the raw error.
New
  • Report a problem, from the Help menu, Settings, and every error card. You see exactly what will be sent before anything leaves your Mac: technical logs, versions, error details and the screenshots you choose to keep. It never includes your messages, contacts or media. You can also save the report to a file instead.
Improved
  • Logs now live in ~/Library/Logs/Chatcove, with the backup password, licence key and personal details redacted.
